Radek Stepanek has announced that he has undergone back surgery, sidelining him for at least the clay-court season.

The 38-year-old Czech, writing a social media statement, said, "I want to again prolong my career and that's why I decided to sacrifice now for three months so I could then play with no pain."

Stepanek said it had been a chronic condition and he would now begin rehab. He has repeatedly said he has no plans to retire.

The former top 10 singles player is currently No. 99 in the rankings.
