FLASHBACK: Opelka guests on Tennis Channel Live

Just like Nick Kyrgios, Reilly Opelka will miss all four majors in 2023. The American joined the list of US Open withdrawals on Thursday, the United States Tennis Association announced.

Opelka’s last appearance came on August 4, 2022, when he was defeated by Kyrgios in Washington, D.C. The former world No. 17 and owner of four ATP singles titles was initially hampered by a hip injury, later undergoing surgery to address the matter. In February, a right wrist injury derailed his hopes of returning to action.

Over the past three days, Opelka had shared two encouraging posts showing his training away from the court. He is currently unranked.

Zhang Shuai also pulled out from the final Grand Slam event of the season. The Chinese star played singles and doubles at last week’s WTA 1000 event in Montreal, though notably dropped her 16th consecutive singles match after losing from a set up against Anna Blinkova.

Also set to be missing in action at Flushing Meadows include Pablo Carreño Busta, Jan-Lennard Struff and Shelby Rogers. Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek will be back to defend their respective titles.
