Top American Andy Roddick appears to be favoring a fast hard court for the United States' Davis Cup tie against Spain in July. The USTA is looking at three sites: San Antonio and Austin, Texas, and Albany, New York.

The decision is tricky, not only because, regardless of which site is picked, temporary grasscourts would have to be erected, but because Spain has two strong grass-court players in two-time Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal and Feliciano Lopez, and three strong hard-court players in Nadal, David Ferrer and Fernando Verdasco.

"You say grass, but Rafa has won Wimbledon a couple of times," Roddick said. "Obviously it's gonna be something quicker, but I don't think that's necessarily any more of an advantage over a fast hard court. Plus these guys might have you almost might want to switch it up because you're coming off of Wimbledon.  o it's not my call, but, I think the grass thing, people are being a little dramatic about it. I don't think it changes the dynamic of the tie that much."—Matthew Cronin
