Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish have pulled out next week’s Masters event in Madrid, the tournament announced. The 28th-ranked Roddick is still suffering from a hamstring injury in his right leg that's been bothering him since December, which also forced him to pull out of his match at the Australian Open against Lleyton Hewitt.

The ninth-ranked Fish simply chose not to sign into the mandatory tournament (players who qualified by rankings are automatically entered) and did not state a reason for doing so. He has recently cited overall fatigue as factor in his mediocre results this year.

Lukasz Kubot and Olivier Rochus will replace them in the draw.
