PARIS(AP) Andy Roddick is not setting his sights low at the French Open.
So what if he entered Monday without a victory at Roland Garros since 2005? So what if the red clay slows his speedy serve and powerful forehands?
I'd like to make a second week here,'' the sixth-seeded American declared after beating 305th-ranked Romain Jouan of France 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 in the first round.I feel that's a feasible goal and something that I'm surprised I haven't done to this point in my career.''
Roddick stopped playing because of an injury after losing the first two sets of his opening match in 2006, was beaten in the first round in 2007, then missed last year's French Open with an injury.
The best Roddick's fared at the French Open was reaching the third round in his 2001 debut. He has had far more success at the other majors, winning the U.S. Open in 2003, reaching two Wimbledon finals and making the Australian Open semifinals three times.
I don't know if it's in my makeup to not care about something. I don't know if I've ever not cared about a match in any tournament,'' Roddick said.Obviously I know there is more of a ceiling at this event for me probably than any other event, as far as what I'm going to have to do with my game and kind of the limits that it puts on my style.''

GLATCH'S MAJOR UPSET: Alexa Glatch of the United States delivered the biggest upset of the French Open's first two days by beating 14th-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy 6-1, 6-1 Monday.
``Even though the scoreline may look like it was pretty easy, it definitely wasn't out there. It's never easy to beat a top 20 player like that,'' Glatch said.
The 19-year-old player from Newport Beach, Calif., is ranked 116th and entered the match with a 1-4 career record in Grand Slam tournaments.
Pennetta's resume includes a quarterfinal run at last year's U.S. Open, as well as a fourth-round showing in 2008 at Roland Garros that included a victory over Venus Williams.
Glatch and Pennetta could face each other again in November, when the United States and Italy meet in the Fed Cup final. Glatch helped the U.S. beat the Czech Republic in the semifinals last month.
The way I played there, it gave me a lot of confidence,'' Glatch said, referring to her Fed Cup experience.I just kind of learned that I can play with these players - and I can beat these players out here.''
Pennetta began practicing only late last week after being sidelined by a leg injury. But she gave Glatch credit and was particularly impressed by the American's serve.
She's a good player and she's young,'' Pennetta said. She had nothing to lose.''

LOVE AND LOVE: Dinara Safina's French Open did not exactly begin well. She lost the first two points against Anne Keothavong, including one double-fault.
Then things got better and better, until the top-ranked Safina had put together a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Keothavong is not exactly a complete pushover: She's ranked in the Top 50, and last week at Warsaw, she became the first British woman to reach the semifinals of a tour event on clay since 1983.
Then again, Keothavong never has won a game at Roland Garros. She was making her main-draw debut after losing in qualifying each of the past six years.
There were two 6-0, 6-0 results at the French Open last year - victories by eventual champion Ana Ivanovic and Victoria Azarenka - and those were the first at Roland Garros since Serena Williams did it in 2003.
When that's happening to you, all you want to do is get on the scoreboard, but I wasn't able to do that,'' Keothavong said.It just kept getting harder and harder.''
