With points dropped off from his 2011 title run in Memphis, former No. 1 Andy Roddick falls to No. 27, his lowest ranking since August 2001. Roddick sprained his ankle in his opening match in San Jose last week and then fell to to Denis Istomin in the quarters. However, Roddick has only 100 ranking points to defend through the end of the tournament in Miami at the end of March.

When he left San Jose, a discouraged Roddick said he would try to play Memphis on his bad ankle, but also thought it might be a good idea for him to rehab for a week or two. However, Roddick, who has been plagued with injuries during the past two years, badly wants matches.

"There's significant gap from where I am and where I need to be," he said. "It would be abnormal if you weren't frustrated, the question is how to figure your way through it... There's a fine line [between deciding to rehab or play on] and something I don't know if there's a perfect answer to. I don't know if I can tell you if one way or another is right or wrong."
