TC LIVE FLASHBACK: Federer increases training

Twenty-time major winner Roger Federer has entered his first tournament of the year at a place that is truly home.

In an update shared by the Swiss Indoors Basel, Federer “has announced his comeback to the stadium at St. Jakobshalle.” The ATP 500 tournament has not been staged since 2019, when Federer lifted a 10th trophy in improving his lifetime event record to 75-9.

Federer previously indicated his desire to participate in September’s Laver Cup at London’s O2 Arena, where he hopes to play doubles with Rafael Nadal.

“I am definitely up for a Laver Cup ‘Fedal’ comeback!” he said back in February.

Basel organizers added that, “The Swiss all-time great has confirmed his initial agenda will include the Laver Cup in London followed by the Swiss Indoors in Basel.”

Federer, who turns 41 on August 8, last appeared at 2021 Wimbledon. There, he was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Hubert Hurkacz before undergoing right knee surgery for the third time in his career.

His opening match in Basel is slated for Tuesday, October 25.
