Olivia Rogowska and Marinko Matosevic upset favorites Jelena Dokic and Peter Luczak to win the Australian Open wildcard playoff event.

Rogowska, ranked No. 259, saved a pair of match points in the second set to stun former world No. 4 Dokic 1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

"To win the whole thing is just an incredible feeling that I can't describe,' said Rogowska, who finished runner-up in 2009. "This year wasn't my best year so to finish on such a positive note makes me really happy."

Dokic's coach, Glenn Schaap, was less than pleased with her performance.

"We've just started, but we have a lot of work to do," he told The Australian. "At the moment she's OK, but I am not extremely happy with it. We are talking everything. There's a lot of work to do, and a lot of things to catch up."

In a men's final which had to be shifted indoors due to rain, Matosevic overcame the 31-year-old Peter Luczak 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Matosevic won the last five games of the match.

Matosevic, who is ranked No. 138, lost in the first round a year ago. "It was great to earn my place without the help of wildcard selectors this time around," he said.

Despite their defeats, both Dokic and Luzcak are expected to receive wildcards into the main event as Tennis Australia has five wild cards to give out on both the men's and women's sides.—Matthew Cronin
