I know it's supposed to rain in Paris today, but I want to get this up before I turn on TTC (it's pretty early here in New York). This will be your Crisis Center for today, and I will have an Off Topic post later today, although almost everything tennis-related these days is On-Topic with Roland Garros in full swing. Before we move on, let's pause to acknowledge Philipp Kohlschreiber.
!Kohl_2 Dude had a real Warrior Moment yesterday, hammering down Lukas Dlouhy, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, 4-6, 17-15 in 3hrs 55mins.
17-15 in the fifth. Now THAT is Grand Slam tennis, and the reason the majors tower over all those cell phone or financial services classics. And did all of you artistic souls who love the one-handed backhand get a gander at Kohlschreiber's one-armed bandit shot? Got to love the footwork, n'cest pas?
I don't care how Philipp fares from here on in, I wouldn't have minded being him last night, at dinner. He must have felt like the conquering hero. Yep, journeymen searching for Warrior Moments, or struggling to be Fed for the Day, on the big Grand Slam stage. Tennis just doesn't get any better than that.
Meanwhile, here is an update on TW's performance in the suicide pool. Rosangel, I believe is at Roland Garros, but I'm hoping she'll follow up when thing settle down with a report on how her "real world" clay rankings seeds perfomed in comparison to how the "official" RG seeds did.
Notes on the Suicide Pool:
1) even if you pick didn't play or finish his or her match on a given day (and you're in black in the picks and results), you must post a next-day pick when the pick is solicited by TAT.
2) the two Pools - Men's and Women's - are played separately. If you're "dead" in one, doesn't mean you're dead in the other.
3) If you survived the men's blodbath, congratulations! If you're out of both, Wimbledon's just a few weeks away! Come on over to the Loser's Lounge and drown your sorrows there (come by the LL also if you're out of either side, or if you're still alive in both to point and laugh!
4) If I got something wrong, please send me (mmmm8) a message using TAT's PM System. If you have any questions about rules, picks, meaning of life, please post your question in the "Ask Questions about the Suicide Pool" thread, or PM SP administrators Moose or Shtexas"
This will be the last reminder of the basics, as you should all have the hang of it by now. I was crushed - crushed! - to see some of my favorite posters go down in flames . Codepoke is out of the men's on a technicality (if you can describe failing to make a pick as such, dude, what was up with that?). Ditto on Beth, Gerrynjapan, Jenn (chica!), Karen, Riley, Orpheo and Prince.
Names in green are clean - alive and kicking. Red are dead. Down in flames but in rather heroic fashion. Plain black type indicates playahs who still need to step up and pick.
So who's got the Wilanders to pick Marat Safin?
