He likes the Madrid's controversial blue clay, he's winning on it, and he's celebrating his 20th birthday to boot. Ryan Harrison has it all lately, on down to a tasty cake. (Surprise!)

Harrison is still young but not entirely unbridled, as evidenced by his latest showing in Spain. He is truly reining in his talent. The birthday boy was happy to get through his first-rounder in Madrid against Sergiy Stakhovsky. Recall that the two have a dramatic history, dating back to when Stakhovsky unceremoniously dispatched the then-upstart in the second round of the 2010 U.S. Open in five excruciating sets. That score line: 3–6, 7–5, 6–3, 3–6, 6–7. And Harrison had three match points in the final-set tiebreak, too, that on the heels of upsetting No. 15 seed Ivan Ljubicic in the first round.

Here's a visual reminder, for those Harrison fans who are okay by their latent PTSD becoming inflamed again:

This time it was different. As Harrison said on his Facebook page, "Really happy to get through my first round here in Madrid against Stakhovsky, 7-6(3), 7-6(5). Had to fight really hard and save a lot of break points but got through. Looking forward to playing Tsonga again in the next round. Also thank you everyone for the birthday wishes! It has been a great day."

This is growing up.
