Serena announces engagement to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian

What a wild week for the WTA, and the season hasn’t even started yet.

On Wednesday, Ana Ivanovic announced that she was retiring from professional tennis.

And on Thursday, not to be outdone, Serena Williams revealed that she is engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. The legendary American broke the news on—where else?—Reddit.

The engagement has been confirmed by Williams’ agent.

Williams' post included an animation and a poem, and she linked to it on Facebook.

The poem reads:

*I came home

A little late

Someone had a bag packed for me

And a carriage awaited

Destination: Rome

To escort me to my very own "charming"

Back to where our stars first collided

And now it was full circle

At the same table we first met by chance

This time he made it not by chance

But by choice

Down on one knee

He said 4 words

And*

​Ohanian responded, "And you made me the happiest man on the planet."

Williams, 35, has never been married, nor has Ohanian, 33. The businessman was born in Brooklyn and currently lives in San Francisco. According to the Associated Press, the two have been dating for over a year. A wedding date has not been set yet.

The world No. 2 arrived in Auckland on Thursday, where she's scheduled to play the ASB Classic beginning Jan. 2. Williams has 22 Grand Slam singles titles, tied with Steffi Graf for the most in the Open era.
