The ankle injury experienced by Serena Williams should not affect her significantly during the rest of the US Open, according to both Williams and her coach.

Williams rolled her ankle during the second set of her during her fourth-round win against Petra Martic, calling the trainer to tape the ankle.

"I usually know if it's horrible early," Williams said following the encounter. "So far I'm good. I have been managing it."

Williams also twisted her ankle during a fourth-round defeat to Karolina Pliskova during the Australian Open, having led 5-1 in the third set when the injury occurred. On that occasion, she did not call the trainer.

"I definitely wanted to have a better plan. I probably should have seen a trainer in Australia," she said. "So I just wanted to get, like I said, get some compression on it and tape it even stronger and that way I can at least try to finish the match."

Williams's coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, indicated that it is not an unusual type of injury for her, but also noted that it could not be fully assessed straightaway.

"The ankle looks okay," he said. "She doesn't feel much pain. She feels, but it's acceptable. And we will know tomorrow when it's going to be cold."

Williams will next play the quarterfinals against Wang Qiang.
