The 2016 nominations for the Laureus World Sports Awards were revealed Wednesday, and Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams and Great Britain’s Davis Cup team are in the running. The annual awards have honored remarkable achievements in sports since 2000. Basically, it's the Oscars of athletics, complete with somewhat similar golden-man trophies.

Previous male tennis players to win in this category are Rafael Nadal (in 2011) and Roger Federer (2005-2008).

Like Djokovic, Williams is a two-time winner (having won in 2003 and 2010). The 21-time Grand Slam champion is nominated alongside Genzebe Dibaba, Anna Fenninger, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Katie Ledecky and Carli Lloyd.

Justine Henin and Jennifer Capriati are the only other tennis players to take home the Sportswoman of the Year award (in 2008 and 2002, respectively).

Last November, Great Britain won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936, and they’ve earned a Laureus World Team of the Year nomination for the accomplishment. The New Zealand All Blacks, FC Barcelona, the Golden State Warriors, the Mercedes AMG Petronas and the United States women's soccer team join the Brits in their category.

No tennis team has ever won the award, while football—or soccer, as it’s called here in America—has dominated with nine winners in 16 years.
