The Serena Williams comeback has officially begun at the HSBC Championships, where the 23-time Grand Slam champion took the court for her first practice ahead of her return to action.

Williams accepted a wild card to compete in the doubles event in Queen’s Club, partnering WTA world No. 9 Victoria Mboko for her first pro-level match since the 2022 US Open.

Rumors first began to pick up of a comeback from Williams, who “evolved” away from tennis following a third-round defeat to Ajla Tomljanovic, last year when it was revealed that she had re-entered the International Tennis Integrity Association’s anti-doping testing pool—clearing the way for her to return to competition at the conclusion of a six-month cooling period.

Though she was officially eligible to compete as of February 22, Williams had made no indication of when her comeback would begin, instead practicing intensely in Florida alongside WTA players like Alycia Parks.
