Each day until the US Open, we'll highlight one statistic from Serena Williams' unparalleled career that will in all likelihood never be broken.

Yesterday, we talked about Serena Williams rallying from match point down to win a Grand Slam title three times—something no other woman in the Open Era has even done two times. Today, we have something no other tennis player has ever done:

Winning three different Grand Slams six (or more) times each

Serena’s career haul of 23 Grand Slam titles is already mindblowing, but even more incredible is how spread out they are across the four majors:

  • 7 Australian Open titles (2003, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2015, 2017)
  • 3 Roland Garros titles (2002, 2013, 2015)
  • 7 Wimbledon titles (2002, 2003, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2015, 2016)
  • 6 US Open titles (1999, 2002, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014)

She’s the only tennis player in history, male or female, to win three different Grand Slams six or more times each.

And to emphasize just how much Serena has raised her level for the Grand Slams throughout her career, the Australian Open, Wimbledon and the US Open are three of the four tour-level events she’s won six or more times, period—Miami is the only other tournament; she’s won that an astounding eight times (2002, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2015).

Serena is one of only three players in tennis history to have won all four Grand Slams three or more times each, alongside Margaret Court and Steffi Graf.

Serena is one of only three players in tennis history to have won all four Grand Slams three or more times each, alongside Margaret Court and Steffi Graf.

There are five other players who have won two different majors six or more times:

  • Helen Wills Moody: Wimbledon (8) and US Open (7)
  • Chris Evert: Roland Garros (7) and US Open (6)
  • Steffi Graf: Roland Garros (6) and Wimbledon (7)
  • Roger Federer: Australian Open (6) and Wimbledon (8)
  • Novak Djokovic: Australian Open (9) and Wimbledon (7)

Only Federer and Djokovic are still active; Federer is one US Open title away from joining Serena in this stat, and Djokovic could conceivably get there, over time (he has three US Opens and two French Opens).

But it’s looking more and more like this is another one of Serena’s records that could stay unbroken for a long, long time.
