Maria Sharapova says that she wasn’t surprised Serena Williams was able to come up with big serves in the clutch during Williams' 6-4, 6-4 victory in the Roland Garros final. The 2012 champion said her inability to hold the early lead allowed Williams to serve with less pressure.
"Well, 2-0, 40-15," Sharapova said of failing to hold her first-set lead. "4-all, losing my serve right away in that game, easy passing shot, first point. I know I'm nit-picking here, but these are moments against her that I feel that I should be able to take, because then she has no pressure going in and serving and being up a break at 5-4, and, serving harder than David Ferrer when he gets to the final of Roland Garros.
"Obviously it's a little bit of confidence but we know she's going to be able to hit a big serve. I mean, I think if I was built like Serena I hope I'd be able to hit a big serve like that, too."
