Pop music darlings Vampire Weekend have a new video out for the song "Giving Up the Gun," off the band's new album Contra. The lyrics don't allude to tennis, but the video is a string of bizarro tennis matches on a white court in a white room. In the role of chair umpire is RZA from the Wu-Tang Clan. Other celebrity cameos include Jake Gyllenhaal and Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers, wearing tennis shorts and headbands circa 1978. The redhead choking up on the handle of the racquet is friend-of-the-band Jenny Murray.
Vampire Weekend's second album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart in January. A No. 1 album plus a tennis-themed video? Sounds like a tennis boom is imminent.
