USO Mixed Split

Fourteen of the 16 teams for the revamped US Open mixed doubles draw have been confirmed.

A day after entries officially closed, USTA announced Tuesday the eight duos earning direct entry and revealed six of its eight wild card selections.

Jannik Sinner and Emma Navarro once again topped the list of combined rankings, but a new No. 2 team emerged: Paula Badosa and Jack Draper. Each had previously appeared on the initial entry list in June with different partners, but Draper was left looking for a new one after Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the hard-court major due to elbow surgery. Badosa and Stefanos Tsitsipas, who have reportedly ended their relationship, had also withdrawn when the updated July 21 list was published.

Among the wild cards include Venus Williams and compatriot Reilly Opelka. They are one of four all-American duos in the field, joining Jessica Pegula and Tommy Paul (direct entrant), Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe (wild card), and Taylor Townsend and Ben Shelton (wild card). The US Open mixed doubles event is the lone major final Williams is yet to contest throughout a legendary career that saw the 45-year-old win her singles and doubles openers in Washington, D.C. last week—her first event of 2025.

Nine Grand Slam singles champions are among the competitors, led by 24-time major winner Novak Djokovic. The Serbian and countrywoman Olga Danilovic occupy one of the wild cards, along with former US Open champions Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu. Six-time major title holder Iga Swiatek won the US Open in 2022 the same year her partner Casper Ruud reached the men’s final at Flushing Meadows.

Daniil Medvedev, who won his maiden major in New York four years ago, teams up with Mirra Andreeva as the final direct entry. This year’s Eisenhower Cup champions at Indian Wells, Taylor Fritz and Elena Rybakina, are set to run it back as one of the combinations favored to win. The Tokyo Olympic gold medalists in singles, Alexander Zverev and Belinda Bencic, finished just behind Amanda Anisimova and Holger Rune in the direct entry team rankings.

There will be an experienced duo in the draw to offset the massive singles star power. For the defending mixed doubles champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, were awarded a place.

The final two tandems will be named at a later date. Could Aryna Sabalenka be among them? The reigning US Open women's champion originally entered with Grigor Dimitrov, but the Bulgarian suffered an abrupt pectoral tear when leading Sinner by two sets at Wimbledon to leave his participation at the year's final major up in the air.

The two-day event begins August 19 and will be staged during US Open Fan Week inside Arthur Ashe Stadium and Louis Armstrong Stadium with $1,000,000 handed out to the winning team. Both Cincinnati Open singles finals will be held on August 18, which could potentially impact player availability.

The streamlined format is best-of-three sets to four games using no-ad scoring, tiebreakers at four-all and a 10-point match tiebreaker as the decider. The championship will still operate under no-ad scoring and a 10-point match tiebreaker, but increases its sets to six games.
