Sloane Stephens on The Ellen Show, receives more famous kudos

At least this week, it's Sloane Stephens' world, and we're all just living in it. The 19-year-old American sat down with Ellen DeGeneres on "The Ellen Show" on Wednesday, and the TV host presented her with a poster to put up in her bedroom, to replace the one of Serena Williams that she may or may not have truly had up before. Here, once more, was Stephens with interviewer Rennae Stubbs after she defeated a hobbled Serena. It was then that Stephens mentioned an impending poster swap:

Leave it to Ellen to continually make young people's dreams come true, in her way. Elsewhere, Stephens has taken in a rainstorm of coverage and kudos in the past few days. She has fielded Twitter shout-outs from the likes of Virgin tycoon Richard Branson, U.S. soccer star Abby Wambach, and the all-but-unibrowed NBA star Anthony Davis. (Branson himself has 2.8 Twitter followers, fewer, interestingly, than does Serena at 3.4 million and counting.)

Stephens also did a whirlwind tour of major media, talking to CNN and more. CNN itself asked as recently as August 2012 if Stephens, now the WTA No. 17, was the heir to Serena and Venus Williams' throne. In my view, that's a hasty question to ask, even now in the wake of her Australian Open showing. Serena moved up to No. 2 despite her dismissal, and Venus is up to No. 23 in the rankings even after Maria Sharapova shellacked her. Let's table this query until the 2013 season is well underway, at least halfway through. Even so, it's assuredly worth posing in due time.
