Former Top 10 player Harold Solomon tells Tennis Now that fans should not lower their expectations of American players just because the game has become more international. Solomon, who once coached Jennifer Capriati and Anna Kournikova, owns an academy in Florida.
“I think it’s just BS, this whole conversation,” Solomon said. “You’ve got players coming from countries that have 10 million people, 20 million people—give me a break. If we can’t get the athletes that are necessary involved in the game and then put them in an environment so that they can be successful, and be clear with them about what it’s going to take for that to happen, then we’re doing something wrong. Seriously, I don’t buy that at all. It’s the biggest cop-out of all-time. It drives me crazy when I hear that conversation.”
