Mornin', everyone. This is going to be quick so we can get started on our Q and A at 11 AM:

As most of you undoubtedly know, Typepad (who provides blogging software) did an unannounced software "update" that has altered the dynamics of reading and posting comments here, mostly by way of paginating the Comments. The issue, I think, is that loading pages that contain volumes of comments is slow and it burns up computer server time. But unlike some other websites, the TW approach is bare-bones. We can display, at most, 50 comments. And there is neither a mini-tool bar showing how many pages of comments there are, or a "first" or "last" page jump.

Obviously, this new set-up is going to drastically impact our ability to do match-calling/running commentary in the Comments section. But there is a fix for that: I can re-set the software to publish the most recent comment first (the default is to publish comments in the order they are received). That means that the first comments you will see will be the 50 most recently posted. One thing to keep in mind is that I can't just flick a switch to change the order in which comments are displayed; we'll have to pick one and stick with it. So I need you to vote - should we keep the present system (oldest comments appear first), or have the most recent comments appear first? Please take the time to express your opinion below.

Yesterday, one of the first comments at the Your Call (next post down) was from Sher, weighing in with a clever way to make sure Typepad takes you to the very last posted comment when you open the Comments window. Check that out.

Tennis.com* is making a vigorous effort to engage the Typepad providers to determine if we can reverse, alter, or tweak the changed format. I have no news to report on that yet. But Tennis.com is also in the midst of a re-design and server upgrade, and there's a chance that we may have options other than Typepad at your disposal. So stay tuned, and please try to live with the present situation.

That situation will be tested today, as this will be a live chat session, during which I'll answer questions and we can all jawbone about. . . stuff. If you have a question, post it in the comments, and I will take them in order, and get as many done as I can. I will be here until lunchtime, then take a break, and return for the rest of the afternoon.

So, hi and let's get started.
