Top 10 players haven’t had much success against Beatriz Haddad Maia over the last few years, and that pattern continued in Abu Dhabi on Friday, as the Brazilian battled past No. 10-ranked Elena Rybakina in the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 event, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Despite firing 19 aces on the day, Rybakina just couldn’t make inroads on the Haddad Maia serve after the first set—the Brazilian converted three of four break chances in the next two sets, while Rybakina only brought up one more break point (and didn’t convert).

Haddad Maia, who’s currently ranked No. 14—the first Brazilian woman to reach the Top 20 in the history of the WTA rankings—has now won her last six matches in a row against Top 10 players.
