Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula battled back from a set down to reach the doubles quarterfinals of Roland Garros on Sunday, defeating Marta Kostyuk and Elena-Gabriela Ruse, 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2, in the third round of the clay-court major.

After dropping the 58-minute first set in a tie-break, the No. 2-seeded American pair jumped out to 4-0 leads in both the second and third sets en route to the two-hour, 20-minute victory.

And with that victory, not only are Gauff and Pegula through to their third Grand Slam doubles quarterfinal together, having previously reached the final of Roland Garros last year and the semifinals of the Australian Open earlier this year, but one of them hit a pretty cool personal milestone.

It was the 100th tour-level doubles win of Gauff’s career.

Gauff started playing at tour-level as a 15-year-old in 2019 and has already captured eight career WTA doubles titles, the biggest ones being three WTA 1000s with Pegula at Doha and Toronto last year and Miami earlier this year.

She’s already been to two Grand Slam doubles finals, too, at the US Open in 2021 (with Caty McNally) and Roland Garros last year (with Pegula).

GAUFF’S DOUBLES WINS BY YEAR (tour-level):
2019: 12-3 (.800)
2020: 10-7 (.588)
2021: 25-15 (.625)
2022: 27-14 (.659)
2023: 26-5 (.839)

This isn’t the first time Gauff has hit 100 career wins this year, either—at the Australian Open in January, she recorded the 100th tour-level singles win of her career with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) second-round victory over 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu.

Awaiting Gauff and Pegula in the doubles quarterfinals in Paris will be the unseeded Hungarian-Belgian team of Anna Bondar and Greet Minnen.

As doubles partners, Gauff and Pegula have now reached the quarterfinals or better at three of the last five Grand Slams.
