Daniil Medvedev moved smoothly through to the third round of his title defense at the US Open on Wednesday night, defeating France’s Arthur Rinderknech, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3.

The 2021 US Open champion has now won 35 of his last 40 matches at the hard-court majors, a stretch that began with his run to his first major final at the 2019 US Open.

Medvedev has been one of the most dangerous players on hard courts in recent years—since 2018 he’s won more titles (13), reached more finals (21) and recorded more wins (188) on the surface than anyone else on the men's tour.

Awaiting fhe world No. 1 in the third round will be Chinese qualifier Wu Yibing.
