Gael Monfils defeated Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic in Stockholm on Thursday, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 event.

It’s his second ATP quarterfinal since returning to the tour in March from a seven-month foot injury lay-off, his other trip to a final eight coming at the Masters 1000 event in Canada in the summer.

But the victory holds much more significance than just tying his deepest run of the year—it was also the 356th hard-court win of Monfils’ career, surpassing countryman Richard Gasquet for most hard-court match wins for a Frenchman in the Open Era.

Awaiting Monfils in the quarterfinals will be Adrian Mannarino, a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Wimbledon quarterfinalist Roman Safiullin.

Monfils leads Mannarino in their head-to-head, 4-2, which includes winning their last three meetings in a row—it also includes a 2-0 mark on indoor hard courts, battling to victories in Montpellier in 2020, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, and at the Masters 1000 in Paris in 2021, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 6-2.

At No. 24, Mannarino is currently France’s top-ranked men’s player.

A win on Friday would put Monfils through to his first semifinal since the first week of the 2022 season, when he won the Adelaide title.
