Iga Swiatek, who’s just five days away from becoming the new No. 1 on the WTA rankings, was as sharp as ever in the quarterfinals of Miami on Wednesday night, beating Petra Kvitova, 6-3, 6-3, in a first-time meeting between major champions.

Not only did her straight-sets win over the two-time Wimbledon champion extend her winning streak to 15 matches (and 16 sets) in a row, but Swiatek continued to build on a very impressive career stat: she’s now 10-1 in her career in WTA quarterfinal matches.

The 2020 Roland Garros champion also improved to 10-1 in tour-level matches against left-handers with her win over Kvitova, her only career loss to a lefty at this level coming to Arantxa Rus in the first round of Rome in 2020, the week before she went on to win her first Grand Slam title on the terre battue in Paris.
