Rafael Nadal improved his career-best start to the year to 16-0 on Saturday, battling back from a 5-2, double-break deficit in the third set to survive Sebastian Korda, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (3), after two hours and 29 minutes in his opening match at Indian Wells.

And his Houdini-esque victory over the huge-hitting American put him within one win of a major milestone: it was the 399th Masters 1000 win of his career.

Nadal already holds the record for most career wins at Masters 1000 events, since this level of tournament began in 1990.
