A day after recording the 150th win of his career with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 second-round victory over Marin Cilic, Taylor Fritz kept the milestones coming in Monte Carlo on Thursday, winning an all-American clash against Sebastian Korda, 7-6 (4), 7-5.

With that third-round win, Fritz has become the first American to reach the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo since Sam Querrey in 2008.

That year, Querrey upset Top 10 seeds Carlos Moya and Richard Gasquet en route to the final eight before falling to then-No. 3 Novak Djokovic.

Fritz’s win over Korda was also his 20th win of the year (20-6), tying Rafael Nadal (20-1) as the ATP’s match win leader for the year.

He’s also reached the quarterfinals or better at four of the last five Masters 1000 events now—he finished 2021 by reaching the semifinals of Indian Wells and the quarterfinals in Paris, and so far this year he's won Indian Wells, reached the fourth round of Miami and is now through to another quarterfinal in Monte Carlo.

Up next for Fritz will be Alejandro Davidovich Fokina—if he can get past the Spaniard, he’ll be the first American to reach the semifinals here since Vince Spadea in 2003.
