Stefanos Tsitsipas is hoping to go from Next Gen to Top 10

It's been a year since Stefanos Tsitsipas collected his first win on tour. The Greek teenager was ranked No. 131. He’s now No. 15.

Tsitsipas says his game has changed just as much as his ranking.

“I have improved a lot since last year, both physically and mentally. My game has changed.” Tsitsipas told press at Shanghai. “I am more aggressive now. I'm actually stronger. I feel stronger. My body has changed since last year.

"I have done lots of matches in the ATP main draw, lots of wins which gave me confidence. I believe in myself a little bit more.

"Actually, last year Shanghai was the tournament that gave me the first main-draw win on ATP, so I have some good memories from here."

Tsitsipas, who has qualified for the NextGen Finals in Milan, even suggested he would like to take a run at qualifying for the eight-player field at the ATP Finals in London. He also said he's aiming to reach the Top 10 this season.

"I have worked hours and hours on the court, lots of hours in the gym. I believe it's just part of what I should be doing," he said. "I think I have more things to improve to focus on and develop my game even more.”

This year, Tsitsipas has reached the final of Barcelona on clay and on hard courts at Toronto, getting wins against Dominic Thiem, Novak Djokovic, Alexander Zverev and Kevin Anderson before falling against Rafael Nadal.

There, the 14-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic could already tell that the 20-year-old is rising.

“He's definitely one of the leaders of NextGen without a doubt, especially this season. He's had some terrific results and terrific wins,” said Djokovic. “He's showing a lot of commitment...in the hours in the gym, on the tennis court, and it's paying off. He's very talented. He was the best junior in the world. If he keeps on going this way, he's got a good future.”

Tsitsipas is the youngest player in the Top 30 in the rankings.
