Seven players have been forced to withdraw or retire from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells because of a stomach virus that has been going around. On Sunday, Vera Zvonareva, Gael Monfils, Vania King, and Juegen Melzer all pulled out, joining Philipp Kohlschreiber, Andreas Seppi, and Magdalena Rybarikova on the sidelines.

"Just spent one of the worst nights of my life (gruesome details) fever, vomiting, diarrhea..all at the same time..caught a bug from someone," King tweeted.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who has continued to play, is also suffering from the stomach flu, which has hit California hard over the past month. Palm Springs-area health officials released a statement saying that the flu lasts between 24 and 48 hours. Officials, ball kids, and journalists have also fallen prey to the bug, which sent the LA Times' Diane Pucin to the hospital.

While not suffering from the stomach flu, Roger Federer says he has a fever and cold that his entire family has caught.
