Hi everyone. Some quick updates before we begin our Open Forum (11 AM to 3 PM, perhaps with a brief lunch break at 1 PM, something I forgot about when  we set this up). After the OF, I will be posting some thoughts on Justine and Pierre Yves - something I've held off doing because I wanted to get some more official intel on the matter of Justine's abrupt withdrawal from the Australian Open for "personal reasons."

Some of you noticed that we've been talking a lot of football these last few days; apologies to our non-Amurican (and many Amurican) friends who have had to bear with this at a blog devoted (ostensibly) to tennis. But it's that time of year, and a little cross-pollination is always fun, and educational.

I popped out of my New Jersey Giants hater closest a few days ago, because of an incident that occurred a few weeks ago, when the Giants blew a game against the Eagles. The day after the game,Stephen Mara, son of the late owner of the Jersey Giants, Wellington Mara,  beat up a colleague (it's worth the read) on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange, for daring to taunt him about the loss.  Stevie boy's excuse: the guy, a grandfather by name of Bob Tomasulo, was "insulting" his "family."

This is one of the most classless acts I've read about in a long, long time. It stinks to high heaven of the entitled, arrogant, rich-boy being unable to take a joke - or a taunt (wanna bet he can dish one out?). And this garbage about defending his family's honor? Who the hail does this guy think he is?  When did he start confusing, oh, Plaxico Burress with his father? Or brother? The presumption at play is enormous, and delusional, which probably explains why this guy lost it and started whanging on gramps.

Hey meathead, did it ever occur you that Tomasulo has a "family" too?  But I imagine gramps has enough of a life not to mistake the Eagles, whom he loves, with his flesh-and-blood.

Anyway, that's my rant for the day. I hope the Eagles crush the Giants.

Okay, now let's talk tennis, shall we?
