Tamarine Tanasugarn has defeated Kimiko Date Krumm 7-5, 6-7(4), 6-1 to win the oldest-ever WTA final and take the title in Osaka.

The match between Tanasugarn, 33, and Date, 40, lasted three hours and seven minutes.

Date was bidding to become the oldest player to win a WTA title and top the record of 39 years set by Billie Jean King. Earlier in the week, Date became the oldest WTA player to ever defeat someone in the Top ten when she won against top seed Sam Stosur, and also took down 16-year-old prodigy Laura Robson in a match that featured  24-year age difference.

Tanasugarn took down second seen Marion Bartoli and teens Kai-Chen Chang and Coco Vandewedghe on her way to the title.
