Former Top 45 player Jeff Tarango is playing the USTA National Father-Son tournament this week at the La Jolla Beach and tennis Club with his 11-year-old son, Jackson. The 45-year-old Tarango, who still plays regularly and has won the USTA National 40s singles before, said in 2012 that his son vowed to improve his serve so that they could keep up with some of the better adult teams.

Defending champions Brett and Brian Joelson are the top seeds; Brian played on the ATP tour. USC coach Peter Smith and his son Riley are also in the draw, as are former ATP pro Devin Bowen and his father, Bart.
