An alternative event is yet to be finalized by the ATP, though Sofia is rumored to be the replacement host for the early November slot.

The Tel Aviv Watergen Open will not be held in 2023 after Israel declared a state of war last week following Hamas-led attacks on its civilians.

The indoor hard-court tournament, which was awarded a single-year license by the ATP for the second straight year, was due to run November 5-11 at the Expo Tel Aviv. In early October 2022, Novak Djokovic was crowned champion after overcoming Marin Cilic in the final.

“The violence and acts of terror witnessed in Israel are beyond comprehension. We strongly condemn any form of terrorism and mourn the loss of innocent lives across this conflict. We hope and pray for peace in the region,” ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said in a statement.

The ATP is yet to announce a replacement event for competitors who entered the 250-level tournament. US Open semifinalist Ben Shelton and top-ranked Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime were among the players promoted by Tel Aviv as confirmed participants before conflict in the region broke out.

Sofia is rumored to be the alternative host location. Metz’s Moselle Open is also due to take place that week, which marks the end of the regular season preceding the Nitto ATP Finals and Davis Cup Finals.
