On Wednesday, soccer legend Diego Maradona passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack. He had undergone brain surgery weeks ago, and had been released from a Buenos Aires hospital on November 11.

"The Argentine Football Association, through its President Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest pain at the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona, read the statement from the AFA. “You'll always be in our hearts."

The tennis community, including Argentines Juan Martin del Potro and Diego Schwartzman, Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters, took to social media to mourn the death of the legendary footballer—a tennis superfan.

Last year during the second stop of Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev’s South American exhibition tour, the Swiss was brought to tears by a video message from Maradona that was played on the court.

"You were, you are and will be the greatest," Maradona had said. "There’s no other like you."

On Wednesday, Argentina’s president Alberto Fernandez announced that there will be three days of national mourning.

"You took us to the highest place in the world," Fernandez wrote on Twitter in his native language. "You made us immensely happy. You were the greatest of all. Thanks for existing, Diego. We are going to miss you the rest of our lives."
