In what can only be described as a dominating performance over Serena Williams, a player who had previously given the former world No. 1 trouble, Simona Halep won the Wimbledon title in straight sets. With only three unforced errors, the Romanian played a match that not many saw coming, handing Williams her third straight Grand Slam final loss.

Previously, the two had faced each other 10 times, with Halep only emerging victorious once, in Singapore at the WTA Finals in 2014. The Romanian has now been to the finals of three of the four Slams, and the WTA Finals, also winning the French Open in 2017.
