pick

In an exciting match-up on clay, world No. 10 Ons Jabeur takes on world No. 12 Belinda Bencic in the Mutua Madrid Open. This match has high stakes considering it's in a WTA 1000 event, and also a rematch of the final in Charleston just three weeks ago. That was a match that Bencic ultimately ended winning, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. It was a battle through and through, and this one shouldn’t be all that different.

Both of these players come into this match in fantastic form, with Jabeur 8-2 in her last 10 clay-court matches and Bencic having won her first two matches in Madrid after winning the title in Charleston. Fans should be expecting some extremely high-quality tennis when these two collide again. They first met at this very tournament in 2021, when Jabeur had to retire with Bencic leading, 7-6 (2), 4-3. That match was well on its way to going Over the game total, much like their showdown in Charleston did.

Overall, there’s just not much that separates these two players, despite the fact that Jabeur has yet to beat Bencic. However, we think it’s only a matter of time before the Tunisian gets in the win column against Bencic—and we want no part of deciding which of these two players will end up taking this particular encounter. Instead, we’ll strictly bank on this one being yet another match in which both players show up to play.

With the last match between these two easily going Over this match's game total of 20.5, we like this one to comfortably do the same. Whether this is a three-set match or one that features another tiebreaker (or a 7-5 set), it’s just hard to see these two players not playing at least 21 games. Bencic is a fantastic server, as she is ranked 14th in the WTA in service game percentage won. That’ll be essential against a player like Jabeur, whose ability to mix things up and utilize her drop shots can get in her opponent’s head can allow her to run away with sets.

We’re not expecting much of that here, as Bencic should be able to hold her ground. That’ll allow these two to work deep into sets and help us cash our first play in Madrid.
