Emma Raducanu vs. Aliaksandra Sasnovich

We know Raducanu is unbeatable in New York, but what about on the other side of the continent? We’ll find out when the sport’s ultimate Cinderella plays her first match since winning the US Open without dropping a set last month. Will the expectations and attention throw her pristine game off, or is it too efficient and uncomplicated for that? She’s never played Sasnovich, a 27-year-old veteran who has been ranked as high as No. 30, but is currently down at No. 100. The spell may well wear off for Raducanu in the desert, but her confidence should carry her through this one. Winner: Raducanu

Leylah Fernandez vs. Alizé Cornet

After her runner-up finish at the US Open, and her move from No. 79 to 28 in the rankings, Fernandez will now be favored against a whole new class of players. One of them is the 64th-ranked Cornet. These two have never played, but it could make for an intriguing match-up. Fernandez had a lot of success at the Open as a counterpuncher, but against Cornet, a first-rate retriever, the Canadian will have a chance to take control of many of the rallies—how will she handle that? Cornet is an old pro and can be a tough out, but I’d be surprised if Fernandez loses all of her Open momentum so quickly. Winner: Fernandez

Andy Murray vs. Adrian Mannarino

The 34-year-old Brit and the 33-year-old Frenchman have played just twice over the course of their long careers. Murray has won both times, but in the first one, at the 2015 US Open, he had to come back from two sets to love to do it. The first reaction here is to think that the former No. 1 player should be favored. But right now Mannarino is ranked 70 spots higher (No. 51 to No. 121), and he has played well against two other highly-accomplished opponents this year: Roger Federer at Wimbledon, and Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open. He couldn’t close the deal against either of them. Can he do it against Murray? Winner: Murray
