BELGRADE, Serbia (AP)—Janko Tipsarevic brought Serbia back into its Davis Cup semifinal against the Czech Republic on Friday by beating Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (5) to leave the two teams tied 1-1 after the opening singles.
Serbia fell behind when Radek Stepanek rallied to beat Viktor Troicki 4-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 in the opening match. Troicki was a late replacement for U.S. Open runner-up Novak Djokovic, who pulled out earlier in the day because he was still tired after his late return from New York.
But Tipsarevic had the 15,000 spectators in the Belgrade Arena on their feet and preserved Serbia’s hopes of reaching its first Davis Cup final.
