Venus Williams returns to pro tennis at Citi Open | The Break
World No. 4 Taylor Fritz kicks off his summer hard-court season in Washington D.C.

The American men’s No. 1, fresh off an incredible grass-court season that saw him capture two titles and reach the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time, gets his D.C. campaign up and running against Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic. Fellow American and world No. 11 Frances Tiafoe also makes his summer hard-court debut against another Aleksandar Kovacevic. Former No. 1 Daniil Medvedev is also in action as six ATP Top 20 players take the court at the ATP 500 event.

Meanwhile, on the women’s side in D.C., Venus Williams tries to keep the wins coming—on the doubles court.

The WTA legend won in doubles on Monday with Hailey Baptiste for her first match win in almost two years, then won in singles on Tuesday—becoming the oldest player to win a tour-level match since Martina Navratilova in 2004. Today, she’ll partner up with Baptiste again for a quarterfinal clash against No. 2 seeds Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai.

The first four singles quarterfinal spots are up for grabs, too, with Emma Navarro and Elena Rybakina among the big names in action.

Parks, the No. 8 seed, faces Czech teenager Sara Bejlek as she tries to reach her first quarterfinal since Auckland in January. Li, the No. 9 seed, plays Frenchwoman Leolia Jeanjean for a spot in her first quarterfinal since Rabat in May. Meanwhile, No. 1 seed Linda Noskova takes on giant-killer Elisabetta Cocciaretto, who just took out Jessica Pegula in the first round of Wimbledon.

An on-fire Alexander Bublik opens his campaign in Kitzbuhel.

The Kazakh has won 13 of his last 15 matches, a stretch highlighted by his first major quarterfinal at Roland Garros and two titles in Halle and Gstaad. The No. 1 seed this week, he’ll try to keep riding that wave as he faces Argentina’s Thiago Agustin Tirante. The entire round of 16 takes place at the ATP 250 clay-court event on Wednesday, with No. 2 seed Sebastian Baez and former Top 10 player Roberto Bautista Agut in action.

Stan Wawrinka tries to reach his first ATP quarterfinal of the year—and since turning 40—in Umag.

The former No. 3 won his first career ATP title at this clay-court event all the way back in 2006, and on Monday he got his first tour-level win since March with his first-round victory. Now, he’ll take on No. 4 seed Damir Dzumhur as he eyes his first ATP quarterfinal since Stockholm last October. Top 2 seeds Francisco Cerundolo and last week’s Bastad winner, Luciano Darderi, are also on the order of play.
