John Tomic, the father and coach of Australian prodigy Bernard Tomic, has approached Brad Gilbert and Darren Cahill about the possiblity of taking over as his son's coach, reports The Australian.
Bernard, 17, showed his future potential in taking 14th seed Marin Cilic to five sets in the second round of the Australian Open. Afterwards, however, the teenager caused controversy by complaining about the scheduling of the match, which finished at around 2 a.m. It is the latest in a number of conflicts involving the Tomics, with John feuding with Tennis Australia officials and Bernard getting caught up in a public standoff with Lleyton Hewitt.
There has been no reported reaction by Gilbert or Cahill, who are currently working as ESPN analysts but are among the most high-profile coaches in the game. Cahill also serves as a coaching consultant for the adidas player development team.
