MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Top seeds Barbora Zahlavova Strycova and Sofia Arvidsson lost opening round matches in straight sets Tuesday at the Cellular South Cup.

No. 1 Zahlavova Strycova, of the Czech Republic and ranked 56th, was eliminated 6-1, 6-3 by Michaella Krajicek of the Netherlands.

No. 2 Arvidsson, a Swede who won her first title at the 2006 Cellular Cup, dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match to Alexandra Stevenson of the United States. Arvidsson also was a finalist last year, losing to champion Maria Sharapova, who did not return this year to defend her title.

American Melanie Oudin, the No. 3 seed in the women's bracket behind No. 1 seed Zahlavova Strycova, was scheduled to face Anastasia Pivovarova of Russia later Monday.
