Unexpected twists and turns were everywhere at the Shiseido WTA Finals Shenzhen, while the ATP's Rolex Paris Masters continued with it's second day of main draw action. These are the Top 5 photos from Tuesday.

1. Kiki Bertens replaced Naomi Osaka in the Red Group at the WTA Finals, where she faced world No. 1 Ashleigh Barty. The alternate came out slightly sluggish to start, but raised her game for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory, her first in six attempts against the Australian. Although Bertens will only play two matches in Shenzhen, she has an opportunity to reach the semifinals when she takes on Belinda Bencic next.

2. With the Shenzhen skyline lit up behind them, WTA Finals Legends Ambassadors Martina Hingis and Agnieszka Radwanska pose for a selfie. Radwanska, who retired last November, won her biggest career title when she triumphed at the season-ending event in Singapore four years ago. Hingis collected five WTA Finals trophies in total, including two in singles.

4. Belinda Bencic was made to work for every point against Petra Kvitova, which was no surprise given the pair were facing off for the fourth time this year. The Swiss evened up their 2019 head-to-head record to 2-2  after her 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 victory over the No. 6 seed. As a result, the 22-year-old captured her first WTA Finals win after falling in her debut to Ashleigh Barty on Sunday.

5. Fresh off reaching the final in Basel, Alex de Minaur stayed hot to win his Paris opener. The Australian rolled past Laslo Djere, 6-1, 6-4, to start his campaign and will meet ATP Finals hopeful Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round on Wednesday. The 20-year-old recently toppled the Spaniard in the Zhuhai semifinals last month, before raising his third hard-court crown of the year.
