PHILADELPHIA (July 11, 2013) – Mylan World TeamTennis hosted its first social media night on Wednesday evening at the Villanova Pavilion, bringing a digital innovation to the tennis community by having two players tweet live during halftime.

Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick of the Springfield Lasers and Philadelphia Freedoms newcomer Sam Groth fielded questions from Tennis Channel announcers Leif Shiras and Rennae Stubbs and also responded to two fan submissions on Twitter that used the campaign’s unique hashtag, #MylanAces, and the players’ Twitter handles, @andyroddick and @SamuelGroth.

With tweets limited to 140 characters, Shiras (@LShirock) asked Roddick, “What do u consider ur greatest career achievement @andyroddick: US Open title: world #1: top 10 9 yrs: marrying Brooklyn? #mylanaces”

Roddick answered, “@LShirock definitely marrying up #MylanAces”

Stubbs (@rennaestubbs) went more personal with fellow Australian Groth, asking, “Have you had a Philly cheesesteak yet? Or are you on a diet big boy? #MylanAces”

Groth countered back with, “@rennaestubbs I haven't yet but it’s on my list of things to do! Are you trying to say something?? #MylanAces”

The creation of the campaign’s hashtag came to light through Mylan WTT’s newest charity program, Mylan Aces. The initiative, which launched ahead of this season, also has relevance to Groth and Roddick, who possess two of the fastest serves in tennis history. Both Groth and Roddick wore special Mylan WTT shirts, featuring #MylanAces below their last names on the back of their shirts.

Mylan Aces awards the team that hits the most aces each night during the season $1,000 towards the charity of their choice. The Freedoms led the way for the first two nights, with the Washington Kastles and the Orange Country Breakers subsequently breaking through, respectively.
