Those icons? John McEnroe and Serena Williams. The former is shown in an image from the Fourth of July in 1981, at the moment of winning the Wimbledon title. The latter appears in a photo from January 2007 at the Australian Open, and—among all of the intense pictures of her taken over time—she may or may not be thrilled about the slightly crazed look that SI chose to highlight.
