Good mornng. As usual, this is the post for discussing the day's tennis action at the USTABJKNTC in Flushing Meadows. Today's Order of Play can be found on this link. Given the large number of visitors we're seeing during this event, we'd be grateful if you could focus your discussions on tennis. After the day's action is over, some off-topic talk is acceptable.

Men - We may not get to see it, because it's on Court 6, but world number 18 Nicolas Almagro against Canada's Frank Dancevic looks interesting. The two have never played each other before. On Court 4, the New Haven winner from last Sunday, Marin Cilic, plays Julien Benneteau in their first-ever matchup. On Armstrong Stadium, Nikolay Davydenko plays Dudi Sela for the first time, in the early match. In the last match on the same court, Ernests Gulbis faces Thomas Johansson. Gulbis, now ranked 40, defeated Johansson in their only encounter to date, in St Petersburg in 2007.

In the evening, Fabrice Santoro and Andy Roddick meet in the marquee match on Arthur Ashe stadium. Roddick has a 2-1 head-to-head record over Santoro, but the Frenchman was the victor in three sets the last time the two played, on carpet in Lyon in 2007.

Women - Jie Zheng, who went all the way to the Wimbledon semifinal earlier this year, faces number 28 seed Anabael Medina Garrigues second on Court 11. Their head-to-head is 1-1, with Zheng having won their only encounter on a hardcourt (in Dubai back in 2005).

Player of the Day:

Sam Querrey, convincingly defeating number 22 seed Tomas Berdych in straight sets. An honourable mention to Tommy Haas, coming back from one set to two down to win in five sets against Richard Gasquet, in a match that saw some high-quality shotmaking from both players.

Weather Report:

Another sunny day is predicted.

As always, enjoy today's tennis.
