Donald

Mornin', folks, this will be your match-calling and All Things US Open post for today. I pretty much said it all about today in my last post, Cred Capital, but as interested as I am in the Roger Federer - John Isner match, I'm almost as eager to see Donald Young going toe-to-toe with Feliciano Lopez. Unless something drastic knocks me off the mission, I'll report on that match.

I just want to add a few housekeeping notes which may not be of great interest to drop-in readers or lurkers. The First Annual TennisWorld New York gathering/book signing was a blast. Andrew Friedman (who posts as Rolo Tomassi) had us up to his roof in lower Manhattan, which turned out to be much less like a classic New York rooftopper (that usually involves sitting on inverted, white-plastic 5-gallon spackling buckets, the fatal garroting of one drunken fool or another by the guy-wire securing the giant television antenna, and white shoes and dresses permanently marred by ineradicable stains of black roofing tar.

Andrew's roof, in fact, had a jungle of potted plants,a tiled and calked floor, full wet bar set-up, and a handsome wooden trellis with climbing vines that served as a roof of sorts over a huge sectional couch. We were surrounded by plants. We had a perfect - and perfectly manageable - crowd of about 20 - 25, most of whom stayed the entire evening; in fact, I think Tari and JB, clutching that omnipresent bottle of champagne ( Pol *Roger*, of course!) are still there!

I'm inviting those who attended to post any thoughts they may want to share over at Heidi's most recent Deuce Club post, which is still open and accepting Off-Topic Comments. But I want to thank Andrew for hosting us and our Social Director Heidi for pulling it all together. In addition to aged parmesan, olives and smoked olives (not to mention hot dogs!), Andrew surprised us with a cake inscribed: New York TennisWorld gathering, 2007. I made GEs until we ran out of tequila.

Speaking of OT: I went in and deleted some Comments this morning from yesterday's CC post, on the grounds that they were inappropriate, and violated the TW site rules. There is no limit to the amount of wit, insight, intelligence, irreverance and snark TennisWorld readers will tolerate, but there is a much lower threshold for crudeness, or vulgarity in the most basic sense of the word. I hope you all consider that before posting Comments. Hail, we all get a little out there sometimes, but do you really want to write somethiing that makes a few thousand people shudder and think, "I don't really need to read this. . ."

Alternativey, just use an Instant Message program to banter with each other when it comes to rude and crude stuff. It's easy to use TW, and particularly the CC posts, for Instant Messaging, but please avoid that. It makes the Mod Squad's job easier.

End of PSA, enjoy the tennis, everyone!
