Afternoon, all.
Apologies for the late appearance of the Crisis Center post today. Wireless issues have dogged TW's crew in New York, but you can expect to see posts later today from Pete and rovin' Ray Stonada.
Yesterday saw the exit of Maria Sharapova, cheered to the last second by her never say die Dad Yuri, who.... oh, sorry. Agnes Szavay, a very promising Hungarian WTA player took out another Russian, Nadia Petrova.
The Women's draw today features the Williams sisters, both of whom face quality opponents. Serena takes on Marion Bartoli, while Venus has to contend with Ana Ivanovic.
On the Men's side, there are some interesting ties. Ferrer and Nalbandian will pound the baseline in a match which has five sets written all over it. Two of the big guns, Djokovic and Nadal, face quality unseeded opponents. Rafa has to contend with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, final conquerer of Tim Henman, while in the evening session Djokovic plays Juan Martin Del Potro, who at 6' 5" reaches up to John Isner's shoulder (BTW, the video of Isner's press conference is very enjoyable - Isner already handles the questions like a veteran).
So, use the comments here for US Open tennis comments and match calls. Enjoy the tennis today: the Open is bubbling along nicely near the mid point.
