Venus' fast serve in Tokyo won't be recognized as record

Venus still owns WTA record for fastest serve struck at 2007 U.S.

The WTA will not recognize Venus Williams' 209.0 Kilometer Per Hour serve (129.9 MPH), struck in her quarterfinal win over Eugenie Bouchard in Tokyo on Thursday as the fastest serve ever, TENNIS.com has learned.

The WTA only recognizes service speeds recorded by its official statistician, IDS, which is not the company collecting data in Tokyo.

"I know I’ve been serving a lot harder in this tournament since I’ve come back from my back injury," Venus told TennisTV.com when asked about today's blast. "It feels good, but I don’t know if it was that hard. I hope it was.”

Venus Williams still owns the world’s fastest serve of 207.6 KPH (129.0 MPH) hit at the 2007 U.S. Open. Serena Williams owns the second fastest serve at 207 KPH (128.6 MPH), struck this year at the Australian Open.

Sabine Lisicki once allegedly hit at a 210 KPH serve at the Commonwealth Bank of Champions in Bali that was not recognized either because IDS was not on site.
