The American doubles team of Lisa Raymond and Liezel Huber win the WTA Championships in their debut as partners, beating Kveta Peschke and Katarina Srebotnik, 6-4, 6-4. Huber and Raymond partnered for the first time at Charleston in April and did not win a title together until Toronto in August. They then won the U.S. Open, Tokyo and the WTA Championships, where they also defeated Gisela Dulko and Flavia Pennetta in the semis.
The 38-year-old Raymond now has four WTA Championships titles with three different partners, including Rennae Stubbs and Samantha Stosur. The 35-year-old Huber won her third Championships crown; the first two came with Cara Black. Huber will finish the year at No. 1 in doubles for the fourth time in her career.
"To know that we went into this partnership where a lot of people doubted it and said that it wasn't going to work, and to come together as team as we have and to win a Slam and the Championships, that would be phenomenal," Raymond said before the event began.
